Another disappointment today: I created a new world with a seed that I had used in a much earlier 1.14 snapshot. Unfortunately, the pathing behavior of the iron golem is still defective. Just as in the earlier game it started to leave town by wading down the river. I managed to push it back into town and walled off access to the river. Then both it and a horse kept trying to scale a mountainside. I assume the problem is how the village was plopped into place: some homes (and the village bell) are bunched together at the foot of a mountain and other homes are higher up and on the other side of the mountain. Perhaps the golem is trying to get to the other part of the village and is just too stupid to use the stairs. The villagers use the stairs. The biggest disappointment was the change in the village itself. In the original snapshot game the terrain and village layout were much better, much more beautiful and defensible. I hadn’t expected there to be any changes in that respect.
But, hey, that will all be fixed tommorrow when the release version comes out…
(Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, and The Honest Politician [note the definite particle] are among those scheduled to assist in the presentation.)
Sounds like you'll need to do some terraforming/landscaping and move some houses/beds…
(The golem pathfinding may be ignoring the stairs because "[i]ron golems can walk up a full block height without jumping and walk over a 1 block wide hole without falling in". Adding a wall high enough to stop it at the base of the mountain may be sufficient to 'encourage' it to use the stairs… )

WARNING: I have an extemely "grindy" playstyle; YMMV — if this doesn't seem fun to you, mine what you can from it & bin the rest.
In the early snapshot I spawned within view of a house on top of a mountain, which is why I renamed my game to "Lonely Mountain". See attached screenshot of view from spawn. I spent ages terraforming that village and loved to go out at night just to look at the house all lit up on top of the mountain. In Prerelease 5 I spawned near the same village, but the terrain is quite a bit different. There is a mountain so tall that there is snow on top, and I suppose I could build a house on it, but it wouldn't be the same..
