    Cool about getting mobs now.

I have the vague impression that trapdoors don't fool mobs into stepping off anymore in 1.8, so you might want to check on that (and please tell me if I'm wrong!)

Trapdoors do work. Getting good rates now. Thank you for your help :)

try to make a larger area and replace the trapdoors with signs. i'm sure it will work :)

There are more layers, and the wiki specifically states that signs no longer work.

wayyyy to light this will only work at night and might not even work then

Light levels inside are at 0. The half slabs block the light while allowing you to see through.

Most likely it is the render distance bug - your render distance should be 10 chunks view distance or more.

    Other things to check off:

Player should be 24-32 blocks away from the spawning surface (for "passive" style mob spawner.)

Needs to be dark on the spawning surface. Any light diminishes spawns and more than 7 light level will be no spawns.

Do not need antennae (that was an old bug I think.)

Do not need trapdoors as long as the fall into the water canal is 3 blocks drop or less. Haven't tried render distance - didn't know that affected it.

My AFK area is 25 or so blocks below the lowest spawning platform.

It normally is completely dark, I just put torches for the picture

There are more floors above that one, I just put trapdoors on the bottom floor for consistency.

EDIT: Render distance increase from 8 to 12 seems to have helped. I'll run some tests.

posted a message on High Altitude Mob Farm Not Working
It's been a while since I posted here, please forgive if this is in the wrong section.

I've built a mob farm above 128 and it doesn't seem to be spawning anything. The design worked when I built it in creative, and I've copy-pasted the farm into another world and it worked fine, so I know the design is alright. The farm only stops working in my survival world.

The issue isn't that the mobs aren't dying, they're just not spawning. Two or three will spawn every 10 minutes or so, but that obviously isn't right for a mob farm with almost 1000 spawning spaces.

    Here's the drop chute
Here's what the spawning pads look like (normally without torches)
I built an antenna, but I'm not sure if that's necessary in this version of Minecraft, as all the other forum posts that mention antennas are years old at this point. Here's a picture of that

I'm just not sure what to do anymore, as I've exhausted all my tactics. I've uploaded my world file, if you care
    http://www.mediafire.com/download/ls4bnwghzqqfhq3/Chewy's_World.zip (about 100 MB)

I've been out of touch lately, so this design might be outdated. I spent 6 hours building this thing yesterday, so I need it to work so I don't go crazy :P

    Thanks

I would suggest building one massive base at your spawn point, with every essential in the game. Set up every kind of farm, wrangle up all the animals, and build these things wherever you want.

Once you've done that, spread yourself out. Go anywhere and everywhere, and build smaller bases at places you find interesting. If you want, you can permanently move somewhere else, and then connect your new base to your central base with a minecart rail.

This is the way I've played for years now, and I have always had new ideas for it.

How long have you been playing MC?: Early Alpha

Why do you want to join this server?: I like small servers. There are too many plugin-based servers out there and I can't seem to get a grip on them.

What are you goals in this server?: To be an active member of the community and build large builds.

How often will you be on this server daily?: 4-6 hours, it really depends on the day though

There's obviously no changing your mind on this subject, but let me at least leave you with this:

I'm not sure how much you've followed the development of Minecraft, but this game is their job. They have worked for 3 years on this project, day in and day out. They have worked with the community no matter how stubborn or rude it was. Whatever it was we asked for, they tried their best to give it to us. The folks at Mojang are respectful of all opinions and have always had an open ear for suggestions.

If you don't think the game is worth the money, at least think about how much Mojang has been dedicated to this project and its community. For the three years I've been following their work I haven't been let down. Consider paying not for the game, but for the amount of respect that Mojang has given us over the years.

Yep, there are about 37000 skeletons in your world. I'll see if I can fix it.

EDIT: Nope, sorry. You could use MCEdit to delete all the entities, but you might delete some that you want to keep. Perhaps someone with more expertise than I have could do it.

Why do you need to preorder a digital game anyway? Sorry, but that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. $60 to reserve something that is unlimited in quantity? No thanks.

Okay, you changed my mind. This is amazing.
I will admit, I'm a little biased against it because it's not completely vanilla, but that's just my playstyle. I commend you and your team for this endeavor and wish you success.

It's awfully arrogant to think that the organizers of Minecon would come to you because you want the Guiness Book of World Records to hand you an award on stage for something we're not even sure is legit. You can claim it is all you want, but there will always be skepticism. If you prove that you can show us something amazing, then I will believe you. At this point all I've seen is a big white wall with some ladders on, and I am not impressed.

    Quote from PitchBright

You're missing the point of the video... like a lot of people. We're not trying to impress you, we're trying to make you curious.

Trying to make us curious? You have the wrong idea of what a video like this is supposed to do. If you want to ask for an award, you need to show us what you have, not make a teaser video.
