Chiclet keyboards are great imho, they feel good and they never want to get dirty, also very reliable in my opinion.
Same goes with rubber domes, i've had maybe one rubber dome keyboard screw over on me after owning about 20 of them.
Mechanical... at least the reds for me they feel way too sensitive and i absolutely hate the fact that there's no tactile feedback.
Scissor switches are horrid for me, they always find a way to get dirty underneath and make it harder to press the keys, not to mention impossible to get the keycaps back on.

Given the copy speed, it is likely a bad I/O controller. As to where, that is in another castle. Possible culprits, CPU caches, HDD cache, or HDD itself in general.
I mean in end it could be corruption of the OS as well, but not as likely as that is rare. And something would have had to cause it in first place hardware wise.
Now that I think about it, my harddrive makes light clicking sounds a few times after bootup and once every 30-60 seconds in 30 minutes after bootup.
I have a western digital harddrive and some blank CD's, should I run western digital lifeguard diagnostics for DOS and see what results that yields me?
From what you're saying, it's either the CPU or HDD or in rare cases, the OS.
Wouldn't this shine some light on what it actually is?
Sep 25, 2013It's impossible for me to do any of that due to the fact nothing is currently usable except for maybe my cursor flying around my iconless desktop and clicking cancel on an explorer.exe has stopped responding window.Posted in: Computer Science and Technology
Now that I recall though, when I was copying a 50 MB file to my desktop while this was happening and when explorer didn't constantly stop responding even though everything else did, it was copying at 0.8MB/sec
Sep 25, 2013This morning, when I booted up windows 7 on my laptop, it took 3 minutes to get to the login screen, which is completely abnormal because it took 30 seconds every other time.Posted in: Computer Science and Technology
When I finally got to the desktop everything just constantly stopped responding and the cursor kept freezing for 2-3 seconds after about 5-10 seconds after it stopped freezing.
Everything was basically unusable and restarting windows didn't help either.
Safe mode also didn't work as it still constantly froze.
What should I do? Windows is basically unusable because even explorer.exe constantly stops responding 2 seconds after I get the desktop back.
Oh wow, if this is in the wrong place, sorry for making your work harder mods.

Tell these "people" I personally said for them to stop giving bad advice, RAM over 4 GB won't even remotely effect game performance right now.
More RAM isn't neccesarily bad but past 4 GB it won't really effect game performance, if you're running out of RAM while gaming you simply need to close a few things, it's a quality of life thing.
Almost no performance increase whatsoever.
Having streaming windows open is a good way to lag, it eats up your bandwidth too.
I'd love to see this video, that makes so little sense I couldn't even begin to explain. 4 GB more RAM wouldn't double FPS unless the person had so much crap open the PC was constantly stopping to write to the page file. This would just freeze the game anyway, not double FPS.
You can't really upgrade a laptop. Depends on the brand. RAM is one of the few things you "might" be able to.
1. Time to stop trusting newegg reviews when it comes to ram.
2. Background programs that i can't close or else problems occur, this includes switchable graphics, close that and my gaming performance is reduced by the difference between intel HD and 6650m, which is huge.
3. What about with all of the background programs?
5. I am able to upgrade the ram on my laptop, which is the only thing i want to upgrade anyways.

It will not increase your fps in games, but it will reduce the amount of fps drop when multiple windows are open. Outside the scope of effects rendering and 3d modeling, RAM will only help with multitasking. 4GB is almost always enough for people, but if it seems like your system is slowing down when a bunch of things are open, then 8GB won't hurt. Any more than that is a waste unless you use applications such as I described previously.
Firefox freezes my entire computer for a few seconds when i open a demanding webpage that i haven't downloaded yet.
Would 8GB help on that also?
Since i do multitasking, then i guess i'll get 8GB

Do you have enough space in your laptop to put 1, 4GB(1066MHz) RAM stick in there?
2450m can handle 1333.
And it comes with 2 slots, defaulted with a 2x2GB.
I want to replace it with 2x4GB Gskill ram.

nope it won't improve performance too much. That GPU isn't as strong as the 5870, but with 40$ sure try to upgrade it.
Also disassembling a laptop is very hard, and if you screw up once that laptop is going to go bye-bye, also many laptops can't be upgraded.
Let me guess you have a sony Vaio laptop?
Acer aspire, i looked at a sony vaio but i couldn't find any remotely good specs for $700.
My laptops ram can be upgraded without disassembling the whole thing.

P- you know what i should link the laptop itself since its still at stock.
Gaming: Kicks ass for a $700 laptop at stock.
I would like to upgrade to 8gb ram since people are saying it makes it real powerful.
Mar 17, 2012Okay, so i got my new laptop, people are saying upgrading to 8GB will make it a beast gaming laptop.Posted in: Hardware & Software Support
I have $40 to spend, but i really don't know if I'm wasting my money.
How much would be improved for gaming?
I usually have 5 firefox tabs open and the occasional 3 steam windows while gaming.
The games would be:
RIFT. (15-30 FPS on ultra with environmental only shadows and no windows opened or it lags badly.)
Dota 2. (This keeps a steady 30-40 with all of my windows open maxed out.)
Kingdoms of amalur: Reckoning. (See above.)
Dungeon Defenders (20-30 FPS with all windows open and maxed.)
I've seen a video with a radeon HD 5870 and it doubled the FPS with 8GB vs 4GB
Would this happen with my intel core i5 2450m and radeon hd 6650m 2GB vram?

The graphics card is absolute dump. I would never buy that because it just loads up on CPU, and has a shitty GPU. You may be able to sell on ebay for 6-700 though? I don't see why anyone would buy from you if it's 550 at staples though.
6650m vs 6770m = 6650m wins?
besides, even if it loads up on cpu, it's strong enough to handle it.
Mar 7, 2012Trymos posted a message on How can i tell if cpu or graphics card is the problerm?Posted in: Computer Science and TechnologyQuote from Prophet0fLies
Either CPU or possibly slow write speeds. Does it have the autosave symbol whenever it is lagging?
Skyrim doesn't autosave when you turn or walk around, it autosaves whenever you enter/exit an area.
It's the CPU, i suggest you upgrade it, I'm not even sure if it can run skyrim on low with great FPS.

1) You bought a laptop (probably a fairly cheap one that is intended for simple on-the-go things like Microsoft Office, and the internet, not gaming.
2)Vista, 'nuff said.
3)You made a bad choice NOT returning it. You are an idiot.
1) That depends, how does age of empires LAG? It's not the third one, it's also not the second one. The first one was released in 1997, even intel graphics can get it right.
2) XP popped up saying i was out of disk space even though i reformatted, unable to install any new OS.
3) It was more then 30 days old apparently, trust me i tried.

If we are talking about good laptops, I reccommend Dell. I've never tried the brands mentioned here, but my friend has a lenovo and he hates it. It is less than a year old and consistently crashes, among other things.
If it's less than a year old then just have your friend send it in for warranty, assuming it isn't void.
Chances are your friend got a defective model.
My experience with a dell laptop:
It came with a 64GB HDD, it was the 160GB at the time (2006), which is pretty small.
So, i turned it on for the first time to see the biggest curse for a 64 GB HDD ever, it came preinstalled with windows VISTA. 16GB wasted instantly.
I open up my computer to see that i have 16 out of 64GB free. Wow, dell knows how to **** off their customers. Did i mention that i had not installed any programs or even launched the web browser? Bloatware was at a minimum too.
Installing a program that's one GB and it finished, running horribly for a $500 laptop. The game was age of empires (the first one)
It constantly crashed whenever i ran any game, demanding or not.
Reinstalled vista and everything was fixed except...
10GB FREE, what the f**k?
It was a full reformat... and yet... it went... even lower...
I knew dell customer support was abysmal so i didn't bother calling in for warranty as no hard drive should do that.
Defragging only reduces the remaining space from 10GB down to 8GB.
So yeah, my experience with a dell laptop was abysmal.

This .zip is incompatible with windows explorer, which quite a bit of people are using.
7zip works fine, not sure about winrar.
Have yet to test game.
EDIT: Tested game and i couldn't run it because java is not recognized as a command. Probably an error on my part since java got corrupted the first install and the second install works on minecraft and some other stuff.
