Make sure to register at http://minecraftnations.com/ you will need to use it!!!

Did you register at our website (MANDATORY)?

    In Game Name(CaSe-SENsitIVE): om3n07
    Age: 21
Location/Time Zone: Midwest, united states. Eastern time.
Choose Your Nation: not sure yet, but probably order of the ancients.
How could you contribute to the community?: I'm a pretty creative guy, and I love redstone. While I'm not a huge fan of constructing buildings simply for artistic purposes, I do enjoy making functional buildings. For example, I have built buildings that would take hours for a single person to enter or destroy, not because of size, but simply because they have so many levels of security.
What real life skills to do you have? Your profession?: I'm a computer science student. I enjoy mechanical things in real life (i.e. I've built air rifles, computers, simple robots, etc.) I love programming. I have a girlfriend, and I plan on marrying her about 2 years after I graduate :3
What other servers have you played on?: None.
How often can you play?: Several times a week, as of right now.
Do you have a mic/teamspeak? If not, are you able to get them?: I do have a mic, and I believe I have teamspeak.
Any extra info you want to give us: I hope this server allows war to happen often. I want to create war engines (if I ever am allowed to use TNT), and I want to build traps for other players from other nations.
Did you make sure that your forum name is your minecraft account name? (If not change it here http://minecraftnati...rea=displayname ) : Yes, but I'm still waiting on an email from my registration on the forums.
Can you think of any loopholes or problems with the documentation? List them if so: not atm.
Do you understand that this server is community run and is completely 100% funded by players like you?: yes. If it is fun enough, I will contribute.

Try turning your door the other way around.
Maybe it's just me but it seems to be facing so that arrows and stuff can come in.

I dunno if it affects beds but I think it's worth a shot. :smile.gif:

Nope, it's oriented the correct way :smile.gif:

Actually, if there's a place dark enough for a mob to spawn (a dark corner), they will for some reason. Just put more torches in your house and you should be fine.

Look at how tiny the room is in the video. There is 3x5 blocks of area in the room, and there are 3 torches lighting it. It definitely has enough light to prevent mobs from spawning in it.

If any mob can find it's way into your home, it will, as you sleep. Seeing no exit I'm kind of stumped. It may be that you have a corner notched out.

    Example:

    [] :wood: :wood: []
    :wood: [] [] :wood:
    :wood: [] [] :wood:
    [] :wood: :wood: []

    Edit:
Do you have a corner like that ^? If you do I would fix it and see what happens.

Hmm, all of my corners are like that. Still, that wouldn't make sense because even though a corner is missing, there is no room for something to enter my house. It's entirely sealed off.

So this happens to me all the time when I try to sleep in this house.

It only seems to happen when I go to sleep well after dark, never right at dusk. If you guys don't like this video, I'm sure I could make a better one because it happens ALL the time. What in the world?? Btw, I think the sound is a bit off. When I swung my sword the first time after waking up, it's because I freaking jumped from the sound of the skeleton!!

in server.properties just leave the IP blank. as long as the server has a static IP anyone in your local network should be able to connect via the servers local IP address and external clients will be able to connect via your external ip address as long as your previous port for classic was also 25565.

It was 25565. Whenever I try to connect, even locally, I get an error that says

    java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect

right now this is how stuff looks:

    Terminal:

[INFO] Starting minecraft server version 0.2.8
    [INFO] Loading properties
[INFO] Starting Minecraft server on *:25565
    [INFO] Preparing level "world"
    [INFO] Preparing start region
[INFO] Done! For help, type "help" or "?"
[WARNING] Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded?
    [INFO] /192.168.0.110:51525 lost connection
    [INFO] /192.168.0.110:51608 lost connection
    [INFO] /192.168.0.110:51627 lost connection
    [INFO] /192.168.0.110:51636 lost connection
    [INFO] /192.168.0.110:51646 lost connection

    Server properties:

    #Minecraft server properties
    #Fri Dec 17 16:55:21 PST 2010
    level-name=world
    hellworld=false
    spawn-monsters=false
    online-mode=true
    spawn-animals=false
    max-players=2
    server-ip=
    pvp=true
    server-port=25565

And I allowed the minecraft.exe to go through my firewall :/

Ok so this is what you do. Open up server.properties and find the part that says 'server-ip:' and at the end of that, add your PUBLIC ip address. The one that starts with 192.168 is the local ip. If you dont know your public ip, bo to whatismyip.com and it'll tell you.
I'm not really sure what the system overload is, but I have gotten it before. I just restart the server and it works again! Hope this helps yet again! :smile.gif:

The weird thing is, however, that I (and others NOT on my local network) were able to connect to the server via the browser in classic mode with the port forwarding in my router to the 192 ip address. The thing is when I changed the ip in the server.properties to my public ip address (which starts with a 2) I get another error message. However, when I attempt to connect to the server using that IP address, ONCE I got an error message other than "connection timed out: connect" after minecraft claimed it was downloading the map. All of the other times, I just simply get "connection timed out: connect-" when I attempt to connect using the 192 address inside of server.properties, but using the "public" ip address inside of minecraft on my machine, NOT on my network. If that makes sense.

I will once again attempt to change the server.properties ip to the public one and see what happens. Unfortunately, I can't connect to my server right now... and I can't figure out why :/ I guess I'll keep trying when I get home.

I got it down to this. However, I cannot connect via my laptop inside of the minecraft application. Everything seems to be working correctly. What am I doing wrong?

[INFO] Starting minecraft server version 0.2.8
    [INFO] Loading properties
[INFO] Starting Minecraft server on XXXXXXXXXXX [this actually has my IP address here, with the port :25565 after it]
    [INFO] Preparing level "world"
    [INFO] Preparing start region
[INFO] Done! For help, type "help" or "?"
[WARNING] Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded?

    ****EDIT*****

By the way, I'm remoting in to my server to edit it. I'm away from home right now, and I'm trying to access it through the interwebs, not the intrawebs.

Did you download the server software from [/url]minecraft.net/servers.jsp[/url]? If you did, you downloaded the classic server software, not the Alpha. [/url=minecraft.net/download.jsp]Here[/url] is the page you want. go to the bottom part that talks about servers software and do what it says.
Although, I suggest using one of the server mods not the one on minecraft.net. My favorite is [/url=http]Hey0[/url], but you can any one you like. Hope this helps!
Also could you post an ip address here? I would like to join it. :smile.gif:

LOL thanks man, I was using the classic server files that you linked above.

Well, I still can't connect, even using the correct software. When I run the minecraft_server.exe, this is what comes up in the terminal:

[INFO] Starting minecraft server version 0.2.8
    [INFO] Loading properties
[INFO] Starting Minecraft server on *:25565
[WARNING] Failed to load ip ban list: java.io.FileNotFoundException: banned-ips.txt (The system cannot find the file specified)
    [INFO] Preparing level "world"
    [INFO] Preparing start region
[INFO] Done! For help, type "help" or "?"
[WARNING] Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded?

What does it mean when it says the server is overloaded? Also, I still can't connect via the IP address of my server. Which address should I use? The one that starts with 24 or 192?

Thanks again guys. I will try using mods after I get the standard version working :biggrin.gif:

posted a message on I can make a classic server, but not survival server?
Hi guys, I'm having a hard time setting up my survival server. I'm sure it's something extremely stupid that I'm doing/not doing, but either way it's not directly addressed in the FAQ, so please don't get angry with me (because I did check for this solution before posting :tongue.gif:).

I have a dedicated file server at my house that runs windows home server. It's basically a stripped down version of windows server 2008, from what I understand. Anyways, I followed the instructions to a T (I believe) to set up the survival server, but when I join the server, it's in classic mode and I don't know how to change it. Also, I can join via the link that it provides me in the externalurl.txt file, but not via the IP of my server.

Can you guys give me any pointers? Am I just using a wrong file? Again, I can join, my port forwarding is done (and obviously works, I can join the server remotely as well as my friends) but I just can't figure out how to turn it into survival mode.

Thanks guys. I'd love to have this up tonight.
